SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County (15th Region) will meet Perry County Central (14th Region) in the opening game of the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20.
The Hornets and Commodores met earlier in the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season. Perry County Central held on to defeat Magoffin County 78-73 on a neutral court at Hazard’s Memorial Gym in the DJ Begley Classic on Dec. 1, 2023.
Both the Hornets and the Commodores knocked off a defending champion to claim a region title.
Magoffin County defeated 57th District rival Martin County 67-57 in the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament title game at Appalachian Wireless Arena in Pikeville on Monday, March 11.
The Hornets are 21-13.
Perry County Central beat Breathitt County 62-55 in the 14th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament title game at Powell County High School in Stanton on Monday, March 11.
The Commodores are 22-13.
The other first round games for the boys’ basketball state tournament are Spencer County vs. Great Crossing; Ashland vs. Lyon County; Adair County vs. Marshall County; Harlan County vs. Warren Central; Newport vs. Campbell County; Pulaski County vs. Trinity and Butler County vs. Evangel Christian.
