As a quick update on a story we ran a couple of weeks ago, Tinley Collett, the 9-year-old third grader from Salyersville Grade School who was auctioning off many of her paintings for charity, collected a total of $320, handing over the check on Monday to the Magoffin County Animal Shelter to go toward adoption fees of animals.
Tinley is a self-taught artist who previously raised money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with a similar auction.
With the current fundraising auction, Tinley told the SI her goal was to raise $240, which would sponsor the adoption of four dogs and one cat from the Magoffin County Animal Shelter. With this auction exceeding the goal, more animals will be able to find homes.
“The shelter is completely full right now, so I’m hoping this will help those dogs find good homes,” Tinley said.
The seven paintings up for auction currently are an array of subject matters, with “For God So Loved the World” depicting Jesus carrying the cross, as well as paintings of flowers, a tree full of cherry blossoms, some sweet treats, and even one featuring her handprint.
“It makes me happy to be able to give to charity and I hope people notice my name in the corner and see who’s done [the painting] and the realism in it,” Tinley said.
Tinley is the daughter of Steven and Lyndsay Collett.
