Magoffin County to open season at Morgan County

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is scheduled to open the 2022 high school softball season at Morgan County on Tuesday, March 15.

Longtime rivals, Magoffin County and Morgan County did not meet during the 2021 high school softball season.

Magoffin County and Morgan County hail from bordering regions.

Head coach Tony Skaggs guides the Hornets. Following a loss to Paintsville in the 57th District Softball Tournament, Magoffin County exited the 2021 season 14-13.

Head coach Eric Conley guides the Cougars. After falling to Elliott County in the 62nd District Softball Tournament, Morgan County exited the 2021 season 8-16.

High school softball teams from throughout the state are preparing to take the field for season openers.

Magoffin County’s 2022 schedule consists of games versus Morgan County, East Ridge, Shelby Valley, Lawrence County, Prestonsburg, Elliott County, Floyd Central, Betsy Layne, Robertson County, Breathitt County, Pike County Central, Johnson Central, Martin County, Rowan County, Belfry, Menifee County and Paintsville.

First pitch for the upcoming Magoffin County-Morgan County softball game is set for 6 p.m. in West Liberty.
