SALYERSVILLE — Senior Walker Russell led Magoffin County in its all-comers meet on Thursday, April 9.
Russell, who is among the top high school student-athletes in the state, notched two first-place finishes. In addition, Russell placed second in two other events.
Russell finished first in both the Boys’ 300 Meter Hurdles and the Boys’ Long Jump. Fresh off a stellar basketball season, Russell placed second in both the Boys’ High Jump and the Boys’ Triple Jump.
Delivering another top finish for the Hornets, Colton Boyd placed first in Boys’ Pole Vault.
Registering a top finish for the Lady Hornets, Ashley Gayheart placed first in Girls’ Discus.
Matthew Hall helped to pace the Hornets, finishing second in both the Boys’ 800 Meter Run and the Boys’ 1,600 Meter Run.
The Hornets placed second out of 11 squads in the boys’ team standings.
The Lady Hornets placed fifth out of 10 squads in the girls’ team standings.
