BEATTYVILLE – Lee County managed to pull away to defeat visiting Magoffin County 42-30 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Friday, Feb. 26.
Magoffin County suffered its second straight loss.
Homestanding Lee County returned to the win column after absorbing back-to-back losses.
Lee County finished 13-of-30 from the field. The Lady Cats were 5-of-15 from 3-point range, shooting 33.3 percent beyond the arc.
Lee County shot 55 percent (11-of-20) from the free throw line.
Kaley White led Lee County, scoring a game-high 12 points for the Lady Cats. Accompanying White in double figures, Kennah Wright netted 11 points.
Rounding out Lee County’s individual scoring, Hannah Bowling (six points), Trinity Price (five points), Aleaha Combs (four points) and Pressley Cundiff (four points) made an impact offensively for the home team.
Magoffin County was limited to nine field goals. The Lady Hornets were 3-of-20 from 3-point range.
Magoffin County finished 9-of-19 from the free throw line.
Karah Lafferty and Angel Mullis paced Magoffin County, scoring nine points apiece for the Lady Hornets in the setback.
Following Magoffin County’s co-leading scorers, Stephanie Helton (eight points), Kennedy Williams (three points) and Jaylen McCarty (one point) chipped in offensively.
Mullis nearly recorded a double-double for the Lady Hornets, claiming a game-high 12 rebounds.
Delivering both outside and inside, Lafferty added eight rebounds for Magoffin County in the loss.
