SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County entered the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament on a four-game winning streak.
The Scott Castle-coached Hornets put together four wins to capture the 15th Region boys’ basketball title.
Magoffin County had won 10 of its last 12 games before leaving Salyersville to travel to Lexington to compete in the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament.
The Hornets rolled past Prestonsburg 79-56 in their opening game in the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 2.
Overcoming a slow start, Magoffin County defeated Floyd Central 78-68 in the quarterfinals of the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Thursday, March 7.
The Hornets topped Johnson Central 77-67 in the semifinals of the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 9.
Making history, Magoffin County downed Martin County 67-57 in the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament title game on Monday, March 11.
Determined Magoffin County won its first region championship.
The Hornets entered the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament 21-13.
