Hornets drop district game to Bulldogs

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County couldn’t battle back from behind as Lawrence County prevailed 48-21 in a Class 3A, District 8 matchup on Friday, Oct. 11.

Following the loss, Magoffin County slipped to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in Class 3A, District 8.

Lawrence County improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in Class 3A, District 8 after notching the win.

The Bulldogs used a balanced offensive attack to claim the district win.

Through the air, Lawrence County completed 10 passes for 198 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Lawrence County rushed 16 times for 173 yards and three touchdowns.

Luke Fetherolf paced Lawrence County through the air, completing eight passes for 126 yards and three touchdowns. Chipping in offensively for Lawrence County, Mitchell Frazier completed two passes for 72 yards and one touchdown.

Kaden Johnson emerged as Lawrence County’s leading receiver, hauling in six receptions for 156 yards and three touchdowns.

Behind Johnson in Lawrence County’s aerial attack, Carlo Chicko made three receptions for 67 yards.

Aiding Lawrence County offensively, Gray Derifield added a 30-yard touchdown pass reception.

Lawrence County rushed 16 times for 173 yards and three touchdowns.

Johnson rushed three times for 56 yards and two touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ winning effort.

Another Lawrence County rusher, Connar York, took four carries for 56 yards.

Showing his versatility. Fetherolf rushed four times for 39 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively for Lawrence County, Braxton Davis delivered one interception.

Magoffin County rushed 31 times for 147 yards and three touchdowns in the district matchup. Blake Wireman led Magoffin County, rushing 17 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

Following Wireman in Magoffin County’s rushing attack, Braxton Montgomery took seven carriers for 29 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively for Magoffin County, John Fultz tallied a team-high eight tackles, one tackle for a loss and one sack.

Following Fultz on Magoffin County’s defensive unit, Mongomery, Mason Nellipowitz and Mason Peck each posted four tackles.

Magoffin County has the week of Friday, Oct. 18 open on its schedule.
