Hornets test Tigers in loss

SALYERSVILLE — Paintsville held on to defeat host Magoffin County 2-0 in a 57th District baseball game on Tuesday, April 29.

The Hornets challenged the Tigers throughout the 57th District baseball game.

As a result of the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 3-16 overall and 1-4 in the 57th District.

Magoffin County held Paintsville scoreless for six straight innings. Paintsville plated a pair of runs in the top half of the opening inning and then was unable to cross home plate again.

Brock Horne started on the mound for Paintsville and earned the win. Horne pitched the first two innings and struck out three Magoffin County batters.

Following Horne, Kruz Howell and Anderson Lauffer each pitched in relief for the Tigers. Howell worked four innings from the mound for Paintsville and posted eight strikeouts. Closing out the game on the mound for Paintsville, Lauffer worked the final inning and struck out one Magoffin County batter.

Isaac Howard started on the mound for Magoffin County and suffered the loss. Howard pitched six and two-thirds innings and logged two strikeouts.

Evan Reed replaced Howard on the mound for Paintsville and pitched the last one-third of an inning. Reed struck out the lone Paintsville batter he faced.

Paintsville scored two runs on eight hits. Lauffer (two hits), Lukas Stewart (two hits), Alex Kimbler (one hit, one RBI), Brody Howell (one hit, one RBI), Shane Blair (one hit) and Riley Jayne (one hit) delivered at the plate for Paintsville, which improved to 17-4 overall and 4-1 in the 57th District after posting the win.

Brayden Bailey, Michael Trusty, Gavin Arnett and Aidan Carty each collected one hit for Magoffin County during the district game. Supplying an extra-base hit, Carty doubled for the Hornets.
