CAR VS MOTORCYCLE

WEST MAPLE ST – One woman is in the hospital and another is in jail after a stolen vehicle ran into a motorcycle on West Maple Street, in Salyersville, on Monday night.

The two women, one on a motorcycle and another in a 2019 Toyota Camry, reported stolen out of Covington, were reportedly friends and traveling together from Morehead to Hindman, when the vehicle struck the motorcycle in the rearend, coming to rest partially on top of the motorcycle.

The operator of the motorcycle, approximately 37 years old, from Clearfield, was conscious and screaming in pain when Salyersville Police Chief Neil Adams arrived to the scene of the wreck. She was taken by ambulance to Paintsville ARH, then airlifted to Lexington, with her status unknown at press time.

The motorcycle she was driving had no plates and a tampered VIN number, but she told police it was her boyfriend’s motorcycle. At press time, she has not been charged, but the matter is still under investigation.

The Toyota Camry came back stolen out of Covington, and the driver, identified as Lanna L. Bowling, 55, of Covington, also had an active warrant out of Scott County for the charge of receiving stolen property, $10,000 or more, the same charge she was arrested on after the wreck.

Bowling told police the two are friends and she was following the girl on the motorcycle to Hindman. They were reportedly traveling east on West Maple Street when Bowling thought the motorcycle was turning into Speedway, according to Bowling’s statements to Adams. She also noted the operator of the motorcycle was not used to driving a motorcycle, so she was reportedly not driving the smoothest, though that has not been confirmed.

Bowling was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where she remains at press time, and charged with receiving stolen property, $10,000 or more.

Editor’s Note: The indictment or charge of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
