SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is scheduled to compete in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic in Gatlinburg, Tenn., Dec. 20-22.
The Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic will feature 30-plus boys’ high school basketball teams. The field for the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic will be capped when 32 teams have registered. Currently, one spot is available for the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic.
The teams that have registered for the Smoky Mountain Classic are Magoffin County, Allen County-Scottsville, Barren County, Betsy Layne, Carver-Montgomery (Alabama), Chapman (South Carolina), Corbin, Danville, Estill County, Falkner (Mississippi), Floyd Central, Gatlinburg-Pittman (Tennessee), Grant County, Hazard, Hebron Christian Academy (Georgia), Kentucky Country Day, Landrum, Letcher County Central, Livingston Academy (Tennessee), McMinn County (Tennessee), Magoffin County, Mercer County, Nashville Christian (Tennessee), Northeast (Tennessee), Notre Dame (Tennessee), Oliver Springs (Tennessee), Paintsville, Russell County, Travelers Rest (South Carolina), Union (Virginia), Whitefield Academy and Wren (South Carolina).
Head coach Scott Castle guides the Hornets. Following a loss to Martin County in the semifinals of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Magoffin County ended the 2021-22 season 12-16.
Several experienced players are due back on the court for Magoffin County in the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season.
The Hornets will open preseason practice in mid-October.
