JACKSON — Magoffin County pulled away to defeat Jackson City 16-1 in four innings on Thursday, April 17.
The Lady Hornets bounced back to win after dropping a game to East Ridge one day earlier.
Magoffin County and Jackson City, foes from bordering regions, met for the first time in the 2025 high school softball season.
Katie Carty pitched a complete game for Magoffin County and earned the win in the circle. Carty limited Jackson City to one run on five hits.
The Magoffin County pitcher recorded five strikeouts and didn’t allow any walks.
Magoffin County scored 16 runs on 12 hits. Players throughout Magoffin County’s lineup produced at the plate. Carty (three hits, six RBIs), Kiley Lemaster (three hits, two RBIs), Bella Trusty (three hits), Baylee Hatfield (two hits, one RBI), Abby Barnett (one hit, two RBIs), Finley Rudd (one hit, one RBI) and Allison Hirst (one hit) each excelled offensively for Magoffin County in its 15-run win. Both Carty and Lemaster homered for the Lady Hornets.
Magoffin County (57th District/15th Region) is scheduled to host Jackson City (55th District/14th Region) for a late season on Tuesday, May 13.
