SALYERSVILLE – Turning in an outstanding effort, senior quarterback Lucas Litteral led Magoffin County over visiting Floyd Central 46-36 in a Class 3A, District 8 game on Thursday, Oct. 7.
After posting the win, Magoffin County improved to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in Class 3A, District 8.
Floyd Central dropped to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in Class 3A, District 8 following the loss.
Litteral thrived for the Hornets. Through the air, Litteral completed 15 of 27 passes for 392 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Litteral rushed 14 times for 54 yards and four touchdowns.
The Hornets shook a slow start to claim the district win. Floyd Central led Magoffin County 16-12 at the conclusion of the first quarter but faltered. Magoffin County outscored Floyd Central 14-6 in the second quarter to lead 26-22 at halftime.
Stretching its lead after the intermission period, Magoffin County outscored Floyd Central 8-0 in the third quarter.
The Hornets and Jaguars traded a pair of touchdowns in the final quarter before Magoffin County notched the win.
Magoffin County rushed 26 times for 276 yards and five touchdowns. Contributing on the ground for the Hornets, Ben Lafferty rushed four times for 46 yards and one touchdown.
Aden Barnett led Magoffin County’s receivers, reeling in five receptions for 241 yards and one touchdown. In addition to Barnett, Brad Standifer hauled in five receptions for 101 yards and one touchdown for the Hornets.
Curtis Jenkins (15 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, one sack), Brock Montgomery (13 tackles) and Ian McCarty (10 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack) combined to lead the Hornets’ defensive effort.
Floyd Central rushed 50 times for 252 yards and three touchdowns. Leading Floyd Central on the ground, Blake Adams rushed 21 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Along with Adams’ leading effort on the ground for the Jaguars, Sheston Johnson rushed 14 times for 103 yards and one touchdown.
Quarterback Max Martin paced Floyd Central through the air, completing three of eight passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns. BJ Peterson and Brody Buck hauled in one touchdown pass reception apiece for the Jaguars.
Magoffin County is scheduled to host Pike County Central for a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 15.
