ROYALTON – A Magoffin County man was arrested while police were investigating a complaint of breaking and entering at the south side of Brown Mountain in the Royalton area.
According to police records, on January 7 just before 7 p.m. Magoffin County Sheriff Deputies D. Watson and N. Watson were dispatched to a breaking and entering call in Royalton. The property owners told police they saw three male subjects around the home, describing to police what the three were wearing.
A passenger car was setting diagonally across the road from the residence and one of the officers recognized the car, asking the other officer to block it in.
Police checked the home, clearing it of any suspects, but found disturbed leaves on the ground, showing someone had very recently walked over the embankment at the back of the home.
One officer proceeded down the embankment and the other went back to run the plates on the vehicle, according to the citation.
Police found Darrell Gene Perkins, 41, of Meadow Branch Rd., in Salyersville, lying in the weeds, and were able to take him into custody, according to the arrest citation. Police also reported finding a computer bag containing a laptop computer, CD case full of CDs, his ballcap, and a small blue flashlight next to Perkins, and found the following in his pockets: a package of Brinks padlocks, a package of padlocks, several gold necklace charms, and a silver-looking ball chain, according to the arrest citation.
All items were positively identified by the owner, according to the police report.
Inside the vehicle, police found women’s shoes, a Stihl trimmer, pole pruning saw, and various other items, also identified as belonging to the owner, according to the citation.
All items were photographed and returned to the owner on site.
Perkins was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where he remains at press time, facing the following charges: possession of burglary tools, second-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking $1,000 < $10,000, and second-degree fleeing or evading police on foot.
