HAZARD — Walker Russell scored 23 points to lead Magoffin County over Letcher County Central 56-50 inn the DJ Begley Classic at Hazard on Friday, Dec. 6.
The win allowed Magoffin County to even its record to 1-1 in the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball season.
Magoffin County dealt Letcher County Central its second loss in the current prep hoops campaign.
As a result of the loss, Letcher County Central dropped to 1-2.
Magoffin County is the reigning 15th Region boys’ basketball champion.
The Hornets landed in the win column after dropping a season opener to Betsy Layne three days earlier. Betsy Layne pulled away to beat Magoffin County 88-55 in a season opener on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Magoffin County and Letcher County Central aren’t scheduled to meet again in the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball season.
