Two arrested on drug charges

SALYERSVILLE – Two men were arrested on drug trafficking charges after officers went to a residence to serve a bench warrant.

According to police reports, four Magoffin County Sheriff Department officers went to the residence of Jerry Combs, 45, of Old Lick Creek Road, Salyersville, located at the top of the Mine Fork Ridge, to serve a bench warrant on the afternoon of October 17. Police were given permission by Combs to go into the home to search for the person with the active warrant, but as Deputy J. Caudill entered the home, he observed Lidennis Joseph Peavy, 19, of Michigan, in the bathroom, seeing Peavy through the vented door take something out of his pocket and throw it to the right of him.

Upon request by the police, Peavy exited the bathroom and the officers fond two pop cans with burnt residue on them, two bags laying in the corner of the bathroom, one with a brown powder substance believed to be heroin and another with a clear crystal substance, believed to be methamphetamine or ICE.

Both substances were sent to the Kentucky State Police lab to be tested, with results still pending, according to police reports.

Police also found a green can in the bathroom containing numerous empty individual baggies.

Reportedly, Peavy did not want to answer questions for the deputies, but stated the substances were not his.

Both Combs and Peavy were taken into custody, ready their Miranda rights and transported to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center. At press time, Combs is still being held at BSRDC, but Peavy was released after three hours, pending future court dates.

Combs is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense (drug unspecified); trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense; and drug paraphernalia – buy/possess.

Peavy is charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense.

At press time, no court dates have been set in their felony cases.

Editor’s Note: The indictment or charge of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
