Water lines extending farther out into the county

SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County Judge/Executive Matthew Wireman told Mortimer Media Group this week that the money has now been secured to extend county water lines to several roads off of Trace Fork in south Magoffin and on Far Middle Fork.

This week Judge Wireman received a letter from the Department of Local Government stating the count has been selected as a recipient of Community Development Block Grant funds, with the preliminary approval of $1,250,000.

Judge Wireman said the entire project to extend the water lines on Rt. 378 (Far Middle Fork) and Routes 542, 1502 and Jake Wireman Fork, all off of Trace Fork, is estimated to cost $2.5 million, and they will be able to cover the rest of the costs with funding from the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority, House Bill 9 money and coal severance funding.

He said that with this announcement, the project is now ready to go and will begin as soon as they can receive the funding. This project will extend water lines to approximately 60 to 80 more homes and will cover the rest of the far-extending homes along state routes.
