Hornets fall behind, lose district game to JC

SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County traded baskets during the first half but faltered as Johnson Central pulled away to win 67-38 in a 57th District boys’ basketball game on Thursday, Jan. 13.

Johnson Central shot 48 percent (24-of-50) from the field. The Golden Eagles shot 33.3 percent (five-of-15) from three-point range.

Johnson Central shot 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the free throw line.

Ryan Rose scored a game-high 17 points to lead Johnson Central to the district win.

Recording a double-double for Johnson Central, Jacob Butcher scored 16 points and hauled in 10 rebounds.

Accompanying Rose and Butcher in double figures for the Golden Eagles, Grant Rice netted 15 points.

Nearly registering a double-double for Johnson Central, Conner Lemaster scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Chipping in offensively, David Fink (four points), Tanner Castle (two points), Reece Collins (two points) and Ryleh McKenzie (two points) accounted for the rest of Johnson Central’s scoring.

Magoffin County connected on 15 of 57 attempts from the field. The Hornets drained three of 14 three-point field goal attempts.

Magoffin County shot 71.4 percent (five-of-seven) from the free throw line.

Aden Barnett scored 12 points to lead the Hornets. Barnett was the only Magoffin County player to reach double figures in scoring.

Nearly registering a double-double for Magoffin County, Ben Lafferty scored nine points and pulled down 13 rebounds.

Behind Lafferty, Zane Whitaker added eight points and six rebounds for the Hornets.

Aiding Magoffin County offensively, Ethan Salyer (four points), Grayson Whitaker (three points) and Spencer Howard (two points) accounted for the rest of the Hornets’ scoring.
