Magoffin County slated to visit Belfry in Class 3A Playoffs

An improved team, Magoffin County compiled a 3-3 record during the regular season. The Hornets split four games after opening the 2020 high school football season 2-0. Magoffin County finished 1-3 in Class 3A, District 8.

Chris Gamble-coached Magoffin County resumed practice earlier in the week. The Hornets haven’t played since falling to Pike County Central in a district matchup on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Magoffin County amassed 1,952 yards of total offense during the regular season. The Hornets passed for 1,276 yards in six games.

Senior quarterback Lucas Litteral led the Hornets throughout the regular season, passing for over 1,200 yards. Litteral passed for 225 yards and two touchdowns when the Hornets hosted the Pirates for a Class 3A, District 8 game less than two months ago.

Opponents edged Magoffin County 220-208 during the regular season.

Belfry used its strong rushing attack to defeat Magoffin County 59-20 when the two teams met for a Class 3A, District 8 game in September.

Perennial state title contender Belfry compiled a 5-3 record during the regular season, finishing 4-0 in Class 3A, District 8. The Pirates posted wins over Magoffin County, Pulaski County, Floyd Central, Lawrence County and Pike County Central during the regular season. Belfry dropped regular season games to Pikeville, North Hardin and Johnson Central.

The Pirates have rushed 289 times for 2,634 yards and 36 touchdowns. Senior running back Isaac Dixon, a Mr. Football candidate, paces the Pirates. In eight games, Dixon has rushed 93 times for 1,290 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Belfry game is set for 7:30 p.m. at CAM Stadium.
