Man allegedly tries to bribe police with $10,000

SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County man is behind bars for allegedly attempting to bribe a local police officer.

According to the arrest citation, Adam L. Minix, 46, of Salyersville, was arrested on October 2 in Salyersville, by Kentucky State Police Trooper T. Salyer on a warrant for an incident that reportedly occurred in September.

In the arrest warrant, Magoffin County Sheriff Department Deputy Jonathan Holbrook stated that around 11 a.m. on September 17 Minix called him regarding a matter that happened on Combs Street in Magoffin County, which Holbrook knew nothing about. Minix then allegedly asked Deputy Holbrook if he would accept $10,000 if he would not indict him on the felony charges he has pending in Magoffin County, in which Holbrook is handling the case.

According to the warrant, issued on September 23, Holbrook told Minix that he was trying to bribe him, and Minix stated he did not care.

At press time, Minix remains at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, charged with one felony charge of bribery of a public servant.

No information was available at press time concerning what felony charges he was attempting to avoid, but Minix is listed as a defendant in three open Magoffin County cases and three Johnson County cases at this time.

Editor’s Note: The indictment or charge of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
